Tour with Sir Antonio Pappano and Bertrand Chamayou

The COE is looking forward to its now well-established end-of-year tour with Sir Antonio Pappano, one of the Orchestra’s closest friends. This year they travel to Italy, Germany and France, joined by the French pianist Bertrand Chamayou (Artistic Director of the Ravel Festival) in La Création du Monde by Milhaud, Piano Concerto in G by Ravel, Piano Concerto No. 2 by Saint-Saëns – replacing Ravel in Rho and Turin only – I got Rhythm Variations by Gershwin and the complete ballet Fancy Free by Bernstein. They will perform in Rho on 8th (private concert) and 9th November, Brescia on the 10th, Modena on the 11th, Turin on the 12th, Udine on the 14th, Aschaffenburg on the 15th, Dijon on the 17th and Paris on the 18th.

Sir Antonio Pappano is a regular artistic partner of the COE and we always look forward to working with a conductor whose enthusiasm and drive are so infectious and who takes the Orchestra on a wonderfully creative voyage every time they meet. All our projects together since 2016 have featured world-class soloists including oboist François Leleux, violinists Lisa Batiashvili, Janine Jansen and Veronika Eberle as well as pianist Beatrice Rana last year. For him, as per the short video below, one of the aspects that attracts him most to the COE is the mix between the older and younger generations and the ability of the Orchestra to build on its incredible heritage shaped among others by Claudio Abbado and Nikolaus Harnoncourt whilst also taking in more recent influences in its stride.

Bertrand Chamayou has mastered an extensive repertoire displaying striking assurance, imagination, artistic approach, and remarkable consistency in his performances. He is a regular performer in venues such as the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Lincoln Center, the Herkulessaal Munich and London’s Wigmore Hall. He has appeared at major festivals including New York’s Mostly Mozart Festival, the Lucerne Festival, Salzburg Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, Rheingau Musik Festival and Beethovenfest Bonn.

This season sees him appear with Philharmonie de Paris and Vienna Philharmonic, with both in Messiaen‘s Turangalila Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France with Barbara Hannigan, San Francisco Symphony, Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España, Barcelona Symphony, Antwerp Symphony, Orchestra National du Capitole de Toulouse, Czech Philharmonic and the Orchestre de Paris under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen and with Sir Antonio Pappano and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe in Italy, Germany and France. A tour with Orchestre des Champs-Elysees and Louis Langree will lead him to important venues across France.

Bertrand Chamayou has worked with orchestras including Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, hr-Sinfonieorchester, WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and Danish National Symphony Orchestra. Recent highlights have included his celebrated debuts with New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, Pittsburgh Symphony and Budapest Festival Orchestra, Bamberger Symphoniker, Atlanta Symphony and Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig. Chamayou collaborated with conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Leonard Slatkin, Sir Neville Marriner, Michel Plasson, Stéphane Denève, Emmanuel Krivine and Andris Nelsons.
